We have always sold the typical florist add-ons: fruit baskets, greeting cards, gifts. However, we spent a lot of time thinking of broadening that base. For example, we looked at opening a cafe in the shop to get more foot traffic. Ultimately we decided that it was in our best interest to stay focused on flowers and gifts.
One area I think we need to explore more is the idea of subscription gifts. Flower of the month, bouquet of the month, wine of the month. Anything where we can turn a one-time customer into a recurring revenue opportunity.
We offer hand painted scarves, one of a kind, done by an artist from Northern Ohio. Also some jewelry made by a local woman, water colors by a local artist and soy candles made by locals as well. Not a great deal of knick knack. Because we opened in September we are still feeling out the market.
