We started using Google adwords but want to be doing it better. Any suggestions for our flower shop?
We spoke to a number of small business florists in the UK, some were using adwords, others found it too expensive on certain keywords to make it worthwhile.
However, something that we noticed that wasn't so was Facebook Ads, we did a short blog post on how businesses could be using FB Ads creatively to win new customers - Hey guys,

May help point you in the right direction.

Google adwords are absolutely essential for any flower shop. And it's actually very easy to get started with adwords. In fact, Google will walk you through the process of setting up an account if you call them - and they are very helpful.
A good place to start is Google Adwords Express - this will get your ads shown on Google Maps and in searches for similar businesses within a 20 mile radius.
We use Google ads for our business. We only advertise for local keywords. We found that keywords like "flowers" are just too expensive due to competition from order gatherers.
My experience is that it's helpful to link to the page that you're advertising. So if you're advertising against keywords around weddings, link directly to your your weddings page. If it's sympathy, link to your sympathy flowers.
It was a little complicated for us to get started and understand Google. Google ads are based on search terms - like "local florist" and "chicago florist". You can buy placement next to these search terms. Depending on how big or small your town is, these keywords may be searched for more or less.
Adwords Express - faster setup, advertise by general website category (e.g. florists)
Adwords - longer setup, advertise alongside specific keywords (e.g. florist in Chicago)
Adwords take a bit more time to learn - more options. We use Adwords because it lets us set the cost per customer click, specific search terms we want to be listed against, etc. Ultimately we get more control and like it better.
